Standards for Pedestal Crane Inspectors in Construction
There are typically four rulings that will cover any job:
- Manufacturer’s Instructions (including crane manual & operator’s manual)
- Company Policy
- Industry Standards (such as ANSI/ASME)
- OSHA Regulations
If there is any contradiction, you must always follow the strictest standard.
The following are the main OSHA Regulations and Industry Standards you need to be familiar with.
Industry Standards
ANSI/ASME B30.4 – ASME’s Standards for Portal & Pedestal Cranes
API Spec 2C – American Petroleum Institute Standards for Pedestal Crane Construction
API RP2D – API Standards for Riggers of Pedestal Cranes & Pedestal Crane Operators
OSHA Regulations
29 CFR 1926 Subpart CC – OSHA’s Regulations for Cranes in Construction
