Standards for Overhead Crane Supervisors in Construction
There are typically four rulings that will cover any job:
- Manufacturer’s Instructions (including crane manual & operator’s manual)
- Company Policy
- Industry Standards (such as ANSI/ASME)
- OSHA Regulations
If there is any contradiction, you must always follow the strictest standard.
The following are the main OSHA Regulations and ANSI Standards you need to be familiar with. Since overhead cranes are rarely used in construction, the most relevant OSHA Regulations are general industry.
