Standards for Mobile Crane Inspectors in Construction
There are typically four rulings that will cover any job:
- Manufacturer’s Instructions (including crane manual & operator’s manual)
- Company Policy
- Industry Standards (such as ANSI/ASME)
- OSHA Regulations
If there is any contradiction, you must always follow the strictest standard.
The following are the main OSHA Regulations and ANSI Standards you need to be familiar with.
Industry Standards
ANSI/ASME B30.5 – ASME’s Standards for Mobile & Locomotive Crane
ANSI/SAE J159 – Society of Automotive Engineers Standards for Rated Capacity Systems
OSHA Regulations
