Crane Standards for the Military: US Navy

There are typically four rulings that will cover any job:

  1. Manufacturer’s Instructions (including crane manual & operator’s manual)
  2. Company Policy
  3. Industry Standards (such as ANSI/ASME)
  4. OSHA Regulations

If there is any contradiction, you must always follow the strictest standard.

The principal standard governing lifting operations in the Navy is NAVFAC P-307
